American Civics Quiz

fading_heritage_banner.jpg

Dear Circa Fans,

The Intercollegiate Studies Institute has created a civics quiz that shows the decline of our nation’s civic knowledge, including that of our elected officials!  Please take the time to see how you measure up to the average American citizen.  Feel free to leave your score in the comment section below.  Enjoy!

“Are you more knowledgeable than the average citizen? The average score for all 2,508 Americans taking the following test was 49%; college educators scored 55%. Can you do better? Questions were drawn from past ISI surveys, as well as other nationally recognized exams.”  TAKE THE QUIZ HERE

“Of the 2,508 People surveyed, 164 say they have held an elected government office at least once in their life. Their average score on the civic literacy test is 44%, compared to 49% for those who have not held an elected office. Officeholders are less likely than other respondents to correctly answer 29 of the 33 test questions. This table shows the “knowledge gap” for each question: the difference between the percentage of common citizens who answered correctly and the percentage of officeholders who answered correctly. ” - Elected Officials Score Lower than the General Public

I was correct on my guesses (like Lincoln v. Douglass) and missed the one where I said that’s what government should do but probably not what it would. Got 31 of 33 or 93.94% And I’ve never held public office or even finished college!

I answered 27 out of 33 questions for a score of 81.8. The sad thing is that I have a BA in history, but most of these things I learned after college.

Gave it try … and got 87.88%. Not bad for a systems analyst. Like Peter I learned most of these things after college on my own.
