- These Roots Grow Deep
-
As I often do each afternoon, I tuned in to see what impassioned pleas the modern-day patriot Glenn Beck would decry. Yesterday was a little different, less testosterone, but nevertheless, just as effective. This time the voice of reason resonated from three women, each with very different stories who have joined together to re-secure “the blessings of liberty” and with dogged determination, pass them onto future generations. The one common thread: a genuine love of God, family and country. These women are deeply concerned about the direction in which our America is headed and are wholeheartedly determined to steer our great republic back to its founding principles, those embodied in the greatest document of our country’s proud and storied history, the Declaration of Independence.
These ordinary but remarkable moms are true patriots. When they look at each other, they see no color distinction other than red, white and blue, the colors of a country that fought bravely against near impossible odds to secure independence from the iron will of the British monarchy.
Under the brilliant leadership of such visionaries as George Washington, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, we have known true freedom and great prosperity as a nation. Such clarity of purpose and vision enabled these great men to achieve monumental deeds that have endured for centuries. These moms have borne witness to the subtle and not so subtle erosion of these once-treasured principles of liberty over the past several years and are determined to bring them to the forefront once again. Surely, the hard-fought victories of our founding fathers were not meant to be buried along side them in their sacred graves. The Declaration of Independence is, quite simply, the foundation for our country and must remain so, just as the constraints embodied in the Constitution establish the very basis for our government and ensure its limited reach.
The wish these moms hold dear, no, actually the goal for which they now strive, is that their children and grandchildren will be blessed enough to “know” patriots like George Washington and more recently, Ronald Reagan who held the office of the presidency and this great republic in such high regard that he never once removed his jacket in the Oval Office. The infectious patriotism and quiet dignity of those such as Reagan are what these and so many other moms want in the lives of their children. Their abiding hope is that future generations will be fortunate enough to be able to touch, see, and feel what liberty truly means in their lives and understand the responsibility it carries with it. They understand that liberty does not flow effortlessly from one generation to the next, it must be taught, revered and treasured, a gift from God passed from mother to child. It’s a battle worth fighting and these mommies are armed with the best ammunition on earth, a love of God, family and country.
GOD BLESS THESE MOMS AND GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!!
