Thursday night, September 24th, at 7:00 Bill Potter will bring part II of his series on father and son Medal of Honor recipients Arthur and Douglas MacArthur. From the age of 15, Arthur badgered his father to let him join the army. At five feet tall and ninety pounds, the Wisconsin-born son of a politically powerful judge, had the spirit and aggressiveness of a badger and the lust for battle and heroism of his Scottish sires. With the coming of the War Between the States, young MacArthur received a state commission in the 24th Wisconsin and went off to war and glory.

Remaining in the army till mandatory retirement in the early 1900s, Arthur MacArthur was the textbook soldier with two sons who adored him and wanted nothing more than to follow in his footsteps. His second son, Douglas, created a reputation and an aura that no other soldier of the 20th century could match, even had they wanted to. Douglas MacArthur was admired, vilified, celebrated and loathed. No one is neutral about him.

Perhaps the most decorated American soldier in the history of the nation, General MacArthur was up to his neck in combat and controversy in both World Wars and the Korean War.

We will also be privileged to hear from a soldier, Major General Gordon Duquemin, who met General MacArthur, spent some time with him and heard him give an historic speech.
