On Thursday night at 7:00 p.m., March 19th, Award-Winning Journalist Joe Kirby will present a program entitled “ The Marietta B-29 Bomber Plant”. Hundreds of WWII Bombers were manufactured in Marietta, Georgia during 1944-45. The story of the plant and the people who worked there is a fascinating look into the home front in the war. Joe’s presentation is lively, witty, and fascinating. He will be signing copies of his book.

My grandfather, Robert A. (Bob) Calvert, built engine nacelles for the B-29s’ R3350s at his company, Calvert Iron Works. His plant was on Lee Street, across the street from Ft. MacPherson.
His son-in-law, my father, was Charles P. Walton, USMCR. Our great-great uncle was George Walton, a signer of the Declaration of Independance.
My step-father, Red Eaves, brought home a guard-shack from the Bell Bomber Plant after Lockheed took over, to use as a back yard work shop. It still stands in my mothers’ back yard in Buckhead.
